Mummy Date

I was talking to a friend last week about how daddies have all the fun and it is the mummies that are the boring ones who have to get things done. Whenever Mr Molly has the kids by himself they have a ball doing lots of fun stuff (with the boring stuff like the dishes being left for me). Another friend's husband even calls her the 'fun police'. So this weekend when Mr Molly went away fishing I thought that instead of doing the usual washing, cleaning, routining thing that makes up everyday life and needs to be done, the kids and I would have a special weekend, a mummy date (no 'fun police' allowed).
Angel Baby wanted to make caterpillar pizzas for dinner so we did. She also wanted ice cream milkshakes.
I had suggested to Angel Baby that we could 'camp' in our living room. She wanted to camp in the yard but after explaining that I would not be able to hear Little Man when he woke in the night and promising that we could watch Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure in the tent she agreed that inside would be okay.
After putting Little Man to bed we watched our movie and ate popcorn until we couldn't fit anymore in. I was going to take Angel baby out to look at stars and play with sparklers but it had become cloudy so we decided to call it a night.
When we were at the supermarket shopping for our pizza and camping treats (Daddy always has lots of treats when he goes camping so we thought we needed some too) Angel Baby found the Nutella and grabbing the biggest jar on the shelf asked if we could have it for our camping breakfast. As this was a weekend without the 'fun police' into the trolley it went (after I swapped it for a smaller jar, not because I don't want the kids to have it as a treat but because I don't trust myself with it in the house).
After a lazy morning watching our movie again we packed some supplies and headed to out for a bush/beach walk.
The kids loved walking along picking up treasures, looking for bugs and just being allowed to 'go.' When we had had enough bush walking we stopped for a snack which came from Daddies leftover camping treats.
Then it was off to the beach where we found slimy things.
And crawly things.
There were hundreds of these tiny little crabs. Little Man, try as he may, could not be gentle enough so he had to be distracted with some rocks while Angel Baby stayed and played.
By this stage Little Man's shoes and pants looked like this.
So I decided to let Angel Baby take her shoes before they got wet as well.
It wasn't until I saw our shoes side by side on the rock that I realised they matched (how daggy is it having matching shoes with your Mum?).
Angel Baby decided to explore rock pools...
and Little Man decided to get wet up to his armpits.
We continued to play, explore and in one little man's case lick the salty rocks until our youngest beach boy decided that he did not want to be wet up to his armpits.
I am so glad that I decided to have a mummy date with the kids while Mr Molly was away. I think it might be a new tradition. No 'fun police' allowed.

moments- angel babies first 'fairy ballet' class

Amanda from Soule Mama has just started a 'this moment' post ritual as she calls it. She said, "single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember". I am going to join her.

A pink tutu

The other day I was in Spotlight with my two little sidekicks when Angel Baby spotted some hot pick tulle and immediately asked me if I could make her (yet another tutu). I was able to convince her that a dusty pink might be a slightly better choice of colour.
To make the tutu I took two very long strips of tulle gathered them. I then made a really thick waistband out of white stretchy fabric and sandwiched the tulle between the top and the bottom of the waistband (so that there was no spiky tulle to touch Angel Babies tummy.
She loves it because it sticks out (she has since informed me that her tutus that don't stick out are not tutus), it is pink and she can easily put it on and off on her own to her hearts content.

We are not sure where her little obsession with ballet has come from but she is always showing us (and anyone who will give her a moment) her moves. Some are traditional...
and some are not so traditional.

fairies.

Did you know we have fairies in our yard?
I told her that I thought they looked more like butterflies. She told me that they were actually fairies and that they drank the nectar from our flowers.
Who am I to argue with a three year old who obviously knows more about fairies then I do (I had mistakenly thought they were butterflies)?
She wanted to catch a butterfly. She told me you needed a bucket and some flowers with nectar to get them to come to you.
You then have to hold the bucket to the sky and say, "Here fairies, fairies, here fairies, fairies" in a high pitched voice (because we all know animals and fairies come better if you use a high pitched voice). Today she had no luck.
However she wasn't too worried as she soon became interested in the silent activities of this little man. I wonder what those round green things are he is putting into and tipping out of his watering can?
Tomatoes. Green tomatoes. Green tomatoes that are not meant to be picked until they are red tomatoes. A whole kiddy bucket full of green tomatoes!
Oh well, at least we have fairies in our garden.

"I did it.."

"I did it, oh yeah, yeah, yeah!" (Quoting Dorey in Finding Nemo).
I have sewn my first knit shirt.
I have been putting off stretch knit sewing for a while now (except over locking the edges of a baby wrap but that does not count). I have had the fabric, patterns and needles but not the guts to give it a go. That is until Celebrate the Boy Month started over at Made by Rae and Made. When Dana posted her 90 minute shirt tutorial and talked about how easy it was I was given the last little push that I needed to brave my fears.
I ended up using a pattern from Ottobre 1/09 and a thrifted men's shirt. I added a reverse applique star in the middle. I used a twin needle to top stitch the neck binding and cuffs and used the my machine for the whole thing. Next time (and there will be next times) I sew a knit shirt I will use the over locker and sew more slowly and carefully when I am topstitching in a contrasting colour. Even though it is not perfect I am very happy with my first attempt at making a stretch knit shirt. You know what they say, practice makes perfect.

Tinkerbell and Bobble

We were recently invited to a family members 21st dress up party with the theme being Disney. With our chaotic month I had forgot about the dress up party and on the day of the party decided that we would just go without dressing up. Mr Molly however insisted that the kids would love to dress up so after having a look in my stash and taking into consideration the theme and my time restraints (there was only a couple of hours until the party started) the kids went as Tinkerbell and Bobble from the Tinkerbell movie (Angel Babies favorite movie at the moment)
However our little Bobble would not keep his (namesake)glasses on. Oh well, they looked cute anyway and Mr Molly was right, they did love to dress up (especially Angel Baby).
